Intercoastal Golf Association (IGA)

Captain: Jim York | Phone: 910-713-0027 | jyorksouthport@aol.com

The Intercoastal Golf Association (IGA) is a loosely organized league whose primary mission is to provide a format for friendly competition between Men’s Golf Associations in Brunswick County. The league currently consists of St James Plantation, Sea Trail, Meadowlands, Lockwood Folly, Carolina National and Rivers Edge.

The season, which runs from early spring to November, consists of a home and away match with each participating club resulting in a twelve-match season. In addition, there is a year-end stroke play championship with all clubs participating.

Players of all handicaps are welcome to play. The format for the home/away events is head-to-head match play with 85% handicap; each club has sixteen golfers at these events. The first sixteen members to sign up, when the matches are posted on The Clubs of St James or Golf Genius websites, comprise the team.

This is an opportunity for members to play at the above courses for a discounted rate of $60 ($28 for home events) which includes cart and green fees, lunch, bag drop gratuity, and a gift certificate at the Pro Shop for the team winner at each event.

Intracoastal Match Cup

ICL Contact: Tom Dionisio | dionisiogolf@gmail.com

Matches are typically scheduled once per month. Each club hosts a match with the date to be determined by the host club. Sign up for the first match will be on May 30 from 7am to 4 pm on Golf Genius.

The six participating clubs are: Compass Pointe, Pine Valley (Wilmington), Country Club of Landfall, Porters Neck, St. James and River Landing in Wallace.

11 members and a professional from each club participate in each match. Every effort should be made to field a team of 11 members and a professional. If there is going to be a shortage please notify the host professional. This should be done as soon as possible to allow the host site to adjust F&B cost.

The format is four-ball match play with each pro playing match play at scratch. Teams will be paired by handicap from low to high, (#1 & #2) players from 1 Club will play the (#1 & #2) from another Club. The (#3 & #4) players will be playing each other and so on.

Each match will be stroked off the low ball within the match. Each individual match is worth 3 total points 1 point for the front 9 match, 1 for the back 9 match and 1 for the 18-hole overall match. Ties will result in ½ point. Each Club vs Club match will total 27 points (8 four-ball matches x 3 points + pro match x 3 points = 21 points).

All amateurs will play using their USGA Handicap Indexes. Each player will receive 100% of their course handicap (USGA recommendation) so a player receiving strokes will receive them on the lowest handicap holes.

A cumulative point’s total will be kept for the season. The club with the most points will be the 2018 Inter-coastal Interclub Champions and hold the winner’s trophy for one year.

It is imperative that all clubs make every effort to field a 12 member and 1 pro team for each match. If a team cannot fill a team and has to “forfeit”, it does not make for an overall fair competition. If a club cannot field a full team the pro will designate which player(s) will play individually and where his score falls will earn the appropriate points.

If an entire team does not show the club will not be invited to participate in the Inter-coastal Interclub in the following year unless it is determined that a serious conflict affected one of the participating clubs participation. If such happens, the club will receive 2/3s of the available points. 2/3 x 3 points for each of the 9 matches (8 team matches + pro match or 27 points) = 18 points.

$70 will be charged to the SJMGA members account when participating at offsite venues.  Home matches are $40. The cost covers Greens Fees, Carts, Prizes and Lunch.
